Traditional Sign Writer Nick Garrett – About

NGS for Traditional Hand Painted Signs, Murals and Artworks – All London and  UK

Welcome to NGS

Thanks for dropping in.

I graduated as portrait painter in 1981 and started my first sign shop out of my art studio, Garrett Fine Signwriters, Battersea. Today I am a signmaker and sign writer based in Central London serving the City and London Suburbs.

We have been established since 1981 and specialised particularly in traditional signwriting and gold leaf lettering in the London area and Home Counties. Offering a full digital design and logo vectorisation service which replicates your logo or our creating of one for you… yet always painted by hand.

As Traditional London signwriters we still champion the old, genuine skills and methods as being of far greater character, impact and prestige. Naturally the old methods do involve preparation and time but the artwork end results are always stunning. In the 1990’s when computers were in their infancy and many traditional signwriters simply did not possess them, it was down to the ‘eye’ and artistic talent in creating layouts.

In the 80’s I was relying purely on eye and memory to hand paint numerous lettering styles – remembering the bank of fonts in my mind and laying down in paint – nowadays I use my computer programs to create the layouts, faithfully reproducing the most detailed of logos, greatly assisting the modern signwriting process.  However for some particular sign projects, for clients such as POD and Ted Baker, I create the sign layout entirely by hand.

Today I am still proudly producing some of the nicest hand painted creative sign solutions in the capital.  Have a wander around the site and I hope you are inspired by the varied projects I have displayed here – feel free to ask questions and contact me for a chat anytime.
